PROJECT OVERVIEW
The community of Legacy is located in SE Calgary between the Bow River and Macleod Trail. Legacy is a model community recognized for embracing the City of Calgary LID best practices by irrigating park spaces from two interconnected stormwater ponds. LIS was engaged by L.A. West in 2010 to review and develop the irrigation master plan as well as automatic irrigation design as phases became available.

PROJECT CHALLENGES
Legacy is one of the first Calgary communities to utilize on-site stormwater ponds for landscape irrigation purposes. Master planning began prior to existing regulations and Low Impact Development (LID) modules.

SOLUTIONS
The project required extensive coordination among the consulting team and the City of Calgary Parks Water Management. LIS reviewed the engineering of the pump station and the sizing of the irrigation mainline distribution network with regard to providing sufficient flows and pressures to downstream landscapes. LIS provided detailed design and coordination services for Central Control communications to the whole development with the Motorola Central Control System located at Parks Water Management Offices. LIS prepared detailed automatic irrigation design drawings for the landscape of each phase as well as as-built drawings. Currently LIS is engaged on the irrigation design of Phases 9 and 10.
