PROJECT OVERVIEW
During a City of Calgary Parks Irrigation Capital project in 2009, LIS prepared the specifications for HDPE pipes and fittings which were subsequently adopted into The City of Calgary Parks Landscape Development Guidelines and Standard Specifications – Irrigation Section. In 2010, LIS provided AutoCAD details drafting services for the City of Calgary Parks Landscape Development Guidelines and Standard Specifications that included HDPE Zone Entry and Isolation Valves for the different pipe sizes. The City of Calgary Parks recently requested LIS to review and update the Landscape Development Guidelines and Standard Specifications 2014 – Irrigation Section in collaboration with The City of Calgary Technical Writer and UDI.

PROJECT CHALLENGES
The primary challenge in updating and developing the irrigation installation details is that the current details are not available in AutoCAD format and most of them had/have to be redrawn completely. As for the irrigation specifications, the main challenge is to maintain approval of the Urban Development Institute (UDI) – Calgary Chapter, that represents all the local industry players from developers to contractors, suppliers, designers, as well as the City of Calgary Parks.

SOLUTIONS
The irrigation specifications upgrade requires extensive coordination among the City of Calgary – Parks and UDI-Calgary as well as a broad detailed and up to date knowledge of the best irrigation practices and products. LIS team has both the coordination and the technical skills to meet the Guidelines and Specifications upgrade goals. In addition, LIS possesses the CAD drafting expertise required to develop all types of irrigation details in a timely manner.
